About<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Jonathan D. Payton joined the department in 2020, after completing his PhD at the University of Toronto (2016) and a SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary (2018\u20132020). He works on topics in metaphysics, philosophy of action, philosophy of language, and philosophical logic. His articles have appeared in such journals as Analysis<\/em>, the Australasian Journal of Philosophy<\/em>, Philosophical Studies<\/em>, and Philosophy and Phenomenological Research<\/em>. He published his first book, Negative Actions<\/em><\/a>, with Cambridge University Press (2021; book review here<\/a>). In 2024 he was the recipient of the Distinguished Young Scientist award (BAGEP)<\/a>. When not doing philosophy, he enjoys relaxing with a good book, a good film, or some good music (the heavier and more metallic, the better).<\/p>\n
