Professor Sandrine Bergès, from the Department of Philosophy, has recently published two new books: Why Read Wollstonecraft Today? (Cambridge University Press) and No Place Like Home: Women Philosophers’ Struggles with Domesticity (Oxford University Press). In Why Read Wollstonecraft Today, she offers a fresh reading of Mary Wollstonecraft’s feminist arguments, demonstrating their enduring relevance to contemporary debates in social and political philosophy. In No Place Like Home, she traces how women philosophers from across history have challenged ideas of domesticity, revealing the home as a rich and enduring subject of philosophical inquiry with continuing significance.
Sandrine is currently on leave as British Academy Global Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of York (UK).
