Philosophy colloquium: Hezki Symonds

Title: The Sorcerer’s Ontologist

By Hezki Symonds (Philosophy, Australian National University)

Date: Thursday, February 1, 2024

Time: 1530-1700

Room: H232

Abstract: Some easy arguments infer the existence of an entity (numbers, properties, etc.) from premises that don’t seem to be about these entities. Many philosophers object that these arguments ‘conjure’ entities into existence. I argue that this objection, the sorcery objection as I call it, is a bad objection.
