Q&A with Peter Singer (online event)

Live Q&A Session with Peter Singer on Bilkent Philosophy YouTube Channel.

Wednesday May 5, 2021 12:30–13:30 (GMT+3)

The Turkish translation of Peter Singer’s influential book “The Life You Can Save” (2019) will be out in May 2021. The translation is edited by Tufan Kıymaz (Bilkent University, Department of Philosophy) and the translation committee includes Bilkent students and recent graduates, and members of Effective Altruism Turkey.

We are collecting questions for this event. If you have any questions for Peter Singer about effective altruism and global poverty, you can let us know via tufan.kiymaz@bilkent.edu.tr. We will choose some of them for the live Q&A.

Peter Singer first became well-known internationally after the publication of “Animal Liberation” in 1975. His other books include “Practical Ethics”, “Rethinking Life and Death”, “One World Now”, and “The Most Good You Can Do”. Three collections of his writings have been published: “Writings on an Ethical Life” and “Ethics in the Real World”, which he edited, and “Unsanctifying Human Life”, edited by Helga Kuhse. He was the founding president of the International Association of Bioethics; and, with Paola Cavalieri, of The Great Ape Project. In 2005, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Following the publication of the first edition of “The Life You Can Save”, Singer founded the organization bearing the same name to help alleviate suffering and poverty in low-income countries. By recommending highly effective charities at www.thelifeyoucansave.org, the organization aims to make it easy for people to do “the most good” with their donations.
